Kaifiyat sira

Mudah saja. Kaedah yang piawai untuk menyira pisang atau labu punggi. Mula-mula masak air gula. Masukkan daun pandan dan bunga cengkih. Tunggu sehinga mendidih kemudian masukkan apa-apa yang hendak disira. Untuk pisang atau labu mungkin boleh dimasukkan awal-awal sebelum menggelegak. Untuk labu mungkin ada persediaan khusus sebelum menyira seperti direndam dalam air kapur lebih dulu.

Orang Mesopotamia (Iraq) kononnya yang pertama buat roda. Yang ini umurnya 4000 tahun jumpa dekat satu ziggurat. Bila tengok tayar ni aku teringat cakra Asoka yang dekat bendera India tu. Tapi yang tu ada 24 lidi.

Singa ni nampak macam patung guardian lion yang dekat pintu masuk tokong atau dewan-dewan perniagaan cina.


Phuong kata dua tiga hari sebelum kami sampai dia baru habis exam sejarah Iran yang memang kena ambil. Bayangkan betapa susahnya nak belajar sejarah Iran dalam bahasa parsi. Empayar Achaemenid jadi Hakhomeneshi, Xerxes jadi Khoshoyorsho. Payah gila dia nak sebut kat kami.

Kalau yang kat depan tu Kurush (Cyrus) maka yang kat belakang tu Darius. Kalau yang kat depan tu Darius, maka yang kat belakang tu Khosyoyorsho (Xerxes yang konon dalam filem 300 walaupun itu tipu sebab dia tak pernah turun ke medan perang, jeneral dia saja turun).

Kita cuma tahu sphinx yang dekat Mesir saja. Tapi dari Greece sampailah Parsi pun ada sphinx. Keling pun ada sphinx.

Abah dan Air Tuak

Sudah ghalib saya lewat menceritakan kisah-kisah bulan puasa. Sekarang sudah pun masuk bulan raya malah sudah hampir tamat pun. Kisah ini memang sangat lewat diceritakan. Sudah 30 tahun terlewat.

Waktu itu mama dan abah baru bernikah tapi mereka tinggal berjauhan. Mama mungkin sedang mengajar di Sekolah Menengah Kubang Keranji (sekarang Long Gafar) atau Sekolah Menengah Chung Hwa. Abah pula mungkin masih bekerja sebagai pengurus di Felda Jengka 12 atau sudah bekerja di Maybank di Kuala Lumpur. Ketika itu sudah hujung puasa, jadi abah balik beraya di kampung.

Ayah Li menjemput abah di padang kapal terbang. Waktu berbuka pun sudah hampir. Ayah Li berkata, "Kita pergi buka puasa di rumah Cikgu Awang Matlah." Cikgu Awang Mat ialah member seangkatan Ayah Li. Ketika sampai di rumah itu sudah pun ada dua tiga orang lelaki. Memang ada majlis berbuka rupanya. Masing-masing pun duduk bersila di atas lantai di depan safrah. Orang sudah benar-benar mahu azan maghrib.

Tiba-tiba salah seorang tetamu berkata, "Mana tuaknya?! Orang nak berbuka dah ni!" Terdengar tuak abah jadi terkejut. Tak sedap duduk. Dalam hati berkata, "Cih! Celaka orang Kelantan. Tak padan dengan kepiah bercotek-cotek atas kepala. Berbuka puasa dengan TUAK?!" Ayah Li yang menyedari keadaan abah yang nampak tak sedap duduk segera menyigung perlahan rusuk abah seraya berkata lembut sambil tersenyum, "Nira, nira."

Abah pun jadi lega ...

Maka begitulah, orang luar memanggilnya nira sedang orang Kelantan memanggilnya tuak yang memang mudah disalah erti. Ada tuak kelapa dan ada tuak nipah, malah di gurun Siwa di Mesir sana pun ada pula tuak kurma.

Tuak memang minuman favourite orang-orang Kelantan untuk berbuka puasa kerana di bulan ini orang memang mengabeng seperti mana yang diterangkan sebelum ini. Orang-orang akan berlingkung di gerai mana yang ada menjual air tuak seperti mana orang Mesir berkerumun di keliling orang yang menjual air tamr, subia atau irq sous.

Lamun, bulan puasa baru-baru ini gerai air tuak menjadi sunyi. Orang-orang moden sudah tidak menggemarinya lagi ...
